In line with its ongoing commitment to social responsibility, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait (ABK) today announced its contribution to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) 2019-2020 Regional Winterization Assistance Plan.
This winter, UNHCR estimated that 4.1 million Syrian and Iraqi Internally Displaced (IDPs) and refugees of other nationalities are in need of winterization assistance in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. For many, this will be the ninth consecutive winter in displacement surviving hostile conditions and exposure to extreme weather conditions.
The latest humanitarian contribution from ABK will assist the UNHCR to provide the IDPs and refugees with core relief items and resources necessary to battle extreme cold such as high thermal blankets, winter clothes, cash assistance. In addition, the contribution will aid in the maintenance and winterization of shelter including weather-proofing and repairs. It will also be a pivotal resource in the improvement of drainage systems and other infrastructure fixtures in camps and informal settlements.
UNHCR’s Head of Private Sector Partnerships in Kuwait, Mr. Nader Al Nakib and his team visited ABK to thank the bank’s team for the contribution. Mr. Fawzy Al Thunayan – General Manager of Board Affairs received the visitors and the letter of appreciation.
The partnership with UNHCR is closely aligned with ABK’s continuous efforts to make a difference in the markets in which it operates. The Bank has previously participated in UNHCR’s “2 Billion Kilometres to Safety” campaign that championed individual acts of solidarity in support refugees.
