Special Ceremony attended by H.M. the Queen of Sweden and representatives from the Ministries of Higher Education and Youth Affairs
Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait (ABK) has been honored for its support of the latest anti-drug initiative from Kuwait’s National Awareness Project Against Drugs (Ghiras). The campaign, called “My Drawing..My Prevention”, was run in collaboration with Mentor International. In recognition of its involvement, the Bank received an appreciation trophy at a special ceremony organized by ‘Ghiras’ held at the National Library of Kuwait, on 22 October 2016.
The ceremony was attended by Her Majesty the Queen of Sweden in her role as Chairman of Mentor International, representatives from Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry for Youth Affairs, and His Highness prince Turki Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. ABK was represented by Mr. Fawzy Al Thunayan, General Manager, Board Affairs.
Commenting after the ceremony, Mr. Al Thunayan emphasized ABK’s continued enthusiastic support for this initiative and the Bank’s broader commitment to contributing to the development of youth. Recent support from ABK has included the provision of training courses and job opportunities, as well programs to encourage young people to achieve their potential and create a bright and successful future for themselves.
The ‘My Drawing..My Prevention’ program was developed in conjunction with Mentor International under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Education. The campaign was aimed at school students aged 9-15 and was introduced across all government schools in Kuwait to ensure maximum reach and impact. It was presented in the form of a competition, and was designed to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs amongst children before they come across them in real life. More importantly, the campaign also focused on encouraging children to invest in something positive and productive, such as art.
Students were given a two- week time frame to finalize and present an art creation which related to dangers of drugs. Over this period a team from Ghiras toured the schools and spoke to students about the dangers of drug misuse, while enthusing and encouraging their creativity in the competition. After the competition finished a Ghiras judging panel selected one hundred and twenty creations for awards.
